Despite the decision of the PPA-CI, the party of former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, not to participate in the December 27, 2025 legislative elections, some of its senior officials have defied this measure.
They had opted to register as independent candidates for the December 27th elections, drawing sanctions from Mr Gbagbo.
In a press release published on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the party announced that the president of the PPA-CI, who is Mr Gbagbo, had “removed from all their positions” 22 officials, including Stephane Kipre, Ouegnin Georges Armand, and Seri Louma.
“This carefully considered decision is part of a framework of political responsibility and respect for the victims” (of the October 2025 presidential election), the PPA-CI claims, pointing out that during the Central Committee session of November 6, 2025, Mr Gbagbo clearly expressed his position regarding the party’s participation in the legislative elections.
“As for me, I am against holding elections in the short term. I think that preparing on the 12th to go ahead in December is to cover up the wrongdoing that took place. It is to cover up the wounded and the dead with a disdainful shroud,” the party says, quoting Mr Gbagbo.
“Discipline cannot be selective. It is the backbone of any serious political organization.” “One cannot claim to be a member of the PPA-CI in times of honour and then abandon it in times of adversity,” because “serving a party means accepting to respect it, in good times as well as in times of hardship,” the PPA-CI maintains.
“It is therefore with regret but with firmness that Laurent Gbagbo has decided to withdraw his support from those who knowingly chose disobedience and insubordination by running in the legislative elections against the party’s decision,” the statement notes.
