The European Union, UNICEF, and UNHCR, in direct collaboration with the Government of Ghana through the Ghana Refugee Board, have completed a joint infrastructure and service delivery handover in Zini to support forcibly displaced populations and host families across the Upper West Region.
Operating under the two-year “Supporting the Resilience of Forcibly Displaced People and Host Communities in Northern Ghana” (UNITE) project, the coalition delivered a fully rehabilitated kindergarten block, modern sanitation facilities, and a solar-powered water infrastructure system to improve living conditions in the border-adjacent community.
Beyond physical infrastructure upgrades, the multi-agency partnership deployed critical medical inventory to the Zini Health Centre to strengthen frontline healthcare capacity and enhance emergency preparedness among local health workers. Financed by the European Union and implemented jointly by UNICEF Ghana and UNHCR, the UNITE initiative focuses on expanding essential social services, reinforcing community inclusion, and fostering long-term socio-economic resilience across northern Ghana’s vulnerable host regions.
