General Mamadi Doumbouya carried out a partial reshuffle of the Guinean government on Tuesday, July 29, with five new appointees and two changes of portfolio.
Five new ministers are joining the executive branch, while the portfolios of two members of the cabinet have been changed, according to a decree made public on national television.
This reshuffle comes amid a desire to revitalise government action on the eve of the final phase of the transition.
According to Africaguinee.com, among the new arrivals is Mariama Cire Sylla, former World Bank Group Resident Representative in Namibia, now Minister of Agriculture. She succeeds Mamadou Nagnalen Barry, who has held the position since September 2021.
Laye Sekou Camara, an electrical and energy engineer, takes over as head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works, previously headed by Mahamadou Abdoulaye Diallo. The latter is transferred to the Ministry of Tourism.
Namory Camara, previously Director General of SOGEAC (Conakry Airport Management Company), is appointed Minister of Energy, replacing Aly Seydouba Soumah.
Fassou Thea, a former advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office, becomes Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy. He succeeds Fatima Camara, who now takes over the Ministry of Trade.
Finally, the Ministry of Youth is being appointed to Mamadou Cellou Balde, a former member of parliament and well-known political figure in the Labe region.
This readjustment allows General Doumbouya to refocus government action on transitional priorities, including
agricultural development, infrastructure, and youth employment.
The rest of the government remains unchanged, confirming the transition leader’s confidence in the team led by PM Bah Oury.
