Guinea’s General Directorate of Elections (DGE) has released the provisional results of the candidate validation process for the upcoming legislative elections.
The election, postponed by one week at the request of the church and religious leaders, will be held on May 31, 2026.
The DGE announced the provisional list of candidates approved for the Guinean legislative
elections of May 31, 2026, initially scheduled for May 24 and postponed by the president to allow for the Pentecost and Tabaski (Eid ul-Adha) holidays.
A national validation commission, supported by local bodies in the 375 municipalities, was established to review the applications. The DGE clarified that no local commission was authorised to reject a candidacy, as all applications had been centralised and then verified at the national level.
Applications were reviewed according to several criteria, including the conformity of documents, the authenticity of civil status documents, compliance with the 30% quota for women on the lists, the financial guarantee, and endorsement by political parties.
In total, 28 parties submitted national lists for the proportional representation list system. Of these, 21 were provisionally approved.
For the single-member and multi-member constituencies, 150 applications were registered across the 50 constituencies, of which 109 were validated, representing a rejection rate of 27%.
The candidates comprise 306 men and 136 women, representing 31% female participation.
The General Directorate of Elections (DGE) noted that four constituencies are reserved for Guineans living abroad (Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas), in accordance with the constitution and the electoral code.
The provisional lists will be submitted to the supreme court for validation.
Candidates have 48 hours to file an appeal after the official publication.
