The government of Japan on Monday confirmed it was providing an emergency grant of $3.5 million in response to the ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
According to Japan the grant will facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in the form of health, water, sanitation and hygiene.
The intervention is being implemented in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
By this grant Japan is looking to contribute to preventing the further spread of the ebola virus disease outbreak in DRC and Uganda and beyond their borders to neighbouring countries.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the IFRC’s health program will benefits from $1.5 million, WFP logistics $1 million and UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) $0.5 million.
In Uganda the IFRC health program will receive $0.5 million.
In DRC as of June 19, 956 ebola cases have been confirmed, with 247 deaths and 92 patients discharged.
In Uganda(as of June 21, 20 cases have been confirmed, with 2 deaths and 14 patients discharged.
