United Nations peacekeepers and national armed forces have intensified joint security operations across the northern Vakaga prefecture of the Central African Republic to counter emerging security threats and stabilize border regions.
Implemented on October 12, 2026, the coordinated patrols bring together troops from MINUSCA’s Zambian contingent and personnel from the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) to secure primary transport corridors and population centers in and around Birao and Am-Dafock.
The elevated military presence aims to suppress armed group activity, protect vulnerable civilians, and dispel destabilizing rumors that have fueled public anxiety across the region. Local civil society figures, including members of the Birao Local Peace Committee, noted that the visible collaboration between national and international forces has significantly lowered community tensions, while urging commanders to expand the operational footprint deeper into surrounding territories such as Tiringoulou and Sikikéde.
Beyond immediate threat mitigation, the joint patrols serve as a vital economic lifeline for northern border communities by safeguarding commercial routes and trade hubs. Merchants in Birao reported that regular security details have restored public confidence, allowing local markets and business activities to proceed without interruption. MINUSCA and FACA leadership confirmed that operational coordination will continue alongside direct community engagement mechanisms to refine early-warning networks and sustain regional security.
