The 4th Signal Company of the Kenya Defence Forces (KENSIG 4), currently deployed under the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), conducted a comprehensive two-day tactical training exercise from October 25 to 26, 2026, aimed at reinforcing force protection, protected mobility, and high-profile security protocols.
Executed by the unit’s Base Defence Platoon in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the intensive drills focused on sharpening Very Important Person (VIP) protection tactics, maintaining mission-critical communications, and hardening defensive posture against emerging threats from illegal armed groups operating in the volatile region.
Tasked with the vital security of the MONUSCO Force Headquarters and essential UN infrastructure, peacekeepers rehearsed tactical coordination, threat neutrality, and rapid response drills in strict alignment with Mission Rules of Engagement (ROEs) and standard operating procedures. The exercise comes amid heightened security risks across eastern DRC, where targeted attacks on humanitarian convoys and hostile militia activity present persistent operational hazards. Through continuous tactical drills and enhanced protective mobility readiness, KENSIG 4 maintains its commitment to securing UN personnel and installations while supporting MONUSCO’s broader mandate to restore peace and stability to the Congolese nation.
