The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have reinforced their commitment to climate resilience and landscape restoration following a major reforestation exercise in Kiambu County.
Personnel from the Kenya Army Corps of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (KACEME), operating in direct partnership with the Green of Africa Foundation, planted over 20,000 trees across Mutathia in Limuru as part of broader civil-military environmental conservation efforts.
The joint initiative reflects the growing operational scope of the KDF Environmental Soldier Programme, an internal defense framework designed to embed ecological stewardship into the daily duties of military personnel. Military commanders leading the operation highlighted that environmental protection has become vital to national security and community resilience, urging both service members and local populations to adopt long-term land management practices to combat deforestation and ecosystem degradation.
Representing the Green of Africa Foundation, Ms. Jedidah Wanyeki praised the collaboration, emphasizing that reversing environmental damage across Kenya requires sustained cooperation between state institutions, civil society, and frontline communities.
