China and Gabon reaffirmed their mutual commitment to expanding strategic bilateral cooperation on Monday during a reception held at the Hôtel Boulevard in Libreville celebrating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Marking 52 years of formal diplomatic relations established in 1974, representatives from both nations evaluated joint progress across key sectors, including infrastructure, trade, agriculture, public health, and human resource development, while aligning regional initiatives with Beijing’s 15th Five-Year Plan.
Economic partnerships between the two countries saw bilateral trade expand to $3.19 billion in 2025, representing an 8.3 percent increase while maintaining a trade balance favorable to Gabon. Key infrastructure achievements showcased during the event included the newly completed renovation of the Gabonese Senate building, ongoing construction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ multi-purpose complex, the Oyem Hospital, and the Kango Agricultural Technology Extension Centre. Additionally, under the “2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges,” nearly 600 Gabonese professionals received specialized technical training in China this year, underscoring a shared emphasis on capacity building alongside physical capital deployment.
