The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa), backed by their partners, have carried out two successful strikes against suspected militant positions in the regions of Timbuktu and Ségou on 26 and 27 October, respectively.
It was part of Operation Dougoukoloko, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
The statement said the first operation took place on 26 October, about 75 kilometres north-west of Léré, in the Timbuktu region.
Surveillance and reconnaissance operations identified around 15 individuals described as militants gathered beneath a shelter.
The group had taken care to conceal its motorbikes at an isolated location away from its gathering point.
After the target was confirmed, the position was successfully struck, with no movement observed at the site targeted, the General Staff said.
The following day, 27 October, intelligence analysis led to the identification of another suspected militant position about 24 kilometres east of Diabaly, in the Ségou region.
According to the statement, the site contained several vehicles and motorbikes forming a significant logistical asset.
After observation and confirmation of the intelligence gathered, the target was neutralised.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces said surveillance and reconnaissance operations were continuing in the areas concerned to assess the impact of the strikes, establish a consolidated assessment and identify any remaining threats.
Through Operation Dougoukoloko, the military authorities reaffirmed their determination to continue security operations throughout the country, highlighting the discipline, professionalism and commitment of the forces involved.
The Malian army also called on the population to continue supporting and trusting the defence and security forces.
“United, we shall prevail,” the statement signed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces concluded.
