Morocco and Guinea-Bissau have reaffirmed their shared diplomatic alignment on the African Atlantic initiatives championed by King Mohammed VI, placing a particular focus on the development of the future Dakhla port and the massive Nigeria–Morocco gas pipeline project.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita held extensive talks in Rabat on Tuesday with his Bissau-Guinean counterpart, João Bernardo Vieira. The discussion centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing major, South–South regional projects driven by the Kingdom across West Africa and along the Atlantic coastline.
During a joint press conference at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, Bourita praised Guinea-Bissau’s consistent support for these strategic initiatives, noting that Bissau is among the active African states engaged in a cooperation dynamic aimed at strengthening economic and logistics connectivity, particularly for Sahelian countries. Within this Atlantic strategy, Moroccan authorities highlighted the planned Dakhla port as a crucial logistics hub designed to facilitate trade and maritime links between West Africa, the Sahel, and global markets. Beyond infrastructure, both ministers underscored the continuity of their political partnership, with Bourita emphasizing Morocco’s stance of respect for state sovereignty and non-interference, stating that Rabat has full confidence in Guinea-Bissau’s national actors to navigate their internal political developments.
The talks also reaffirmed a close diplomatic alignment on the Sahara issue, with Bourita thanking Guinea-Bissau for its steadfast support in regional and international forums. Minister Vieira reiterated his country’s backing for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the autonomy plan presented by Rabat, describing it as a credible and realistic solution. This high-level meeting comes as Morocco continues its diplomatic push across Atlantic Africa to consolidate regional economic corridors built around port, energy, and logistics networks. Central to this continental strategy is the Nigeria–Morocco gas pipeline project, whose intergovernmental agreement is slated for signing in 2026.
