Rabat and Dakar have reaffirmed their exceptionally close relationship following high-level talks between Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, and El Malick Ndiaye,
Speaker of the Senegalese National Assembly. During his working visit to Rabat on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Ndiaye emphasized that the legislative bodies of both nations are intensifying their coordination to act as a unified voice within international and regional parliamentary forums. This collaboration is designed to exchange legislative expertise and consolidate the foundations for security and development across the African continent.
A central theme of the discussions was Senegal’s unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity. Ndiaye specifically welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which reinforces the credibility and preeminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the definitive solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. Speaker Talbi Alami echoed these sentiments, noting that the “privileged historical ties” between the two nations are rooted in shared values and a common vision for a prosperous and stable Africa.
The meeting also delved into the major infrastructure and geopolitical projects currently shaping the Atlantic coast. The Senegalese delegation expressed strong interest in the Royal Atlantic Initiative, a strategic vision aimed at providing landlocked Sahelian countries access to the Atlantic Ocean. Discussions also touched upon the progress of the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline and the Atlantic African States Process (AASP), both of which are viewed as essential drivers for regional economic integration and energy security.
Beyond high-level strategy, the speakers focused on the deep human and social relations that bind the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples. By strengthening parliamentary oversight and cooperation, both legislative bodies hope to facilitate smoother economic exchanges and cultural partnerships. The visit concluded with a meeting between Ndiaye and Ahmed Akhchichine, Vice-President of the House of Councilors, further solidifying the commitment to a multi-tiered legislative partnership that supports peace and sustainable growth.
