Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita had his first phone conversation with Senegal’s newly appointed Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Cheikh Niang.
The two leaders discussed the strong relationship between their countries and their shared commitment to deepening cooperation.
Bourita congratulated Niang on his new role and wished him success. The ministers emphasized the unique bond between Morocco and Senegal, which is built on a shared history, common values, and strong human connections. These ties give the partnership a lasting and strategic dimension.
The call was also a chance to reaffirm both nations’ commitment to strengthening their political, economic, and cultural cooperation, in line with the vision of King Mohammed VI and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Morocco and Senegal have enjoyed a special relationship for decades, marked by frequent high-level visits and active economic collaboration in key sectors like finance, agriculture, and education.
Senegal is one of Morocco’s top partners in Africa. Moroccan banks and industrial groups have a significant presence there, and Dakar serves as a key platform for Rabat’s trade and influence in West Africa. At the same time, Morocco has consistently supported Senegal with development and training projects, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to political and social solidarity.
This conversation between the two ministers is part of an ongoing dialogue aimed at consolidating a partnership that both countries consider “exemplary,” especially as the African continent undergoes major geopolitical and economic changes.
