Morocco and Tanzania have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen their partnership in the crucial area of sustainable energy transition.
During a meeting in Rabat between Moroccan Minister Leila Benali and Tanzanian Deputy Prime Minister Doto Mashaka Biteko, the two officials engaged in discussions regarding joint initiatives in renewable energy development, rural electrification projects, the advancement of green hydrogen technology, and the expansion of electrical infrastructure.
Both parties underscored the significance of skills transfer and capacity building, with Tanzania expressing interest in leveraging innovative models that have already been successfully implemented in Morocco, particularly in the aftermath of the Al Haouz earthquake.
This meeting highlights Morocco’s increasing prominence as a key regional player in driving the energy transition across Africa.
Minister Benali reiterated that South-South cooperation, especially with African nations, constitutes a strategic priority for the Kingdom, building upon the foundations laid by the royal visit to Tanzania in 2016, which fostered sustainable multisectoral collaboration. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Biteko lauded Morocco’s expertise in the energy sector and discussed the ambitions outlined in the Dar es Salaam Declaration, adopted at the “Mission 300” Summit in January 2025, which aims to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans.
This working visit, which concludes today, May 15th, underscores the growing momentum in energy cooperation between the two African nations.
