Tunisia’s national airline, Tunisair, is targeting an increase in its operational fleet to 14 aircraft by the close of May 2025.
This gradual strengthening of Tunisair’s in-service aircraft comes at a crucial time, as air connectivity plays an increasingly vital role in the country’s post-crisis economic recovery efforts. According to TAP reports, Tunisair’s active fleet had previously dwindled to as few as six or seven aircraft due to maintenance issues and financial constraints. By 2024, the airline’s total fleet comprised only 18 aircraft, a significant decrease from the 28 it operated in 2010.
The Ministry of Transport has developed an emergency plan to address this issue, aiming to raise the number of operational aircraft to 11, supplemented by an additional three leased aircraft. This strategy will bring the total number of aircraft in service to 14 before the peak summer travel season.
Looking ahead, Tunisair aims to further expand its operational capacity to 21 aircraft by 2026 through a combination of refurbishing existing planes and acquiring new additions to its fleet.
