Technical validation work for the ambitious Praia-Dakar-Abidjan multimodal corridor project is set to take place in Dakar from June 25 to 28, 2025.
This critical meeting signifies a decisive step towards the realization of this major regional integration initiative, spearheaded by eight ECOWAS member states: Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
Launched in January 2024, the project envisions an integrated transport corridor encompassing roads, railways, and maritime links. Its primary objectives are to facilitate trade, strengthen regional interconnections, and stimulate economic growth across West Africa. The Dakar gathering will bring together representatives from participating member states, technical experts from Ministries of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport, specialists from the ECOWAS Commission, and various technical and financial partners. Their collective task is to finalize the conclusions of preliminary studies, as reported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport.
A key focus of this meeting is the preparation of a comprehensive final technical report. This report will include detailed feasibility studies, preliminary engineering designs, and proposed financing mechanisms for the entire corridor. Special attention will be dedicated to developing a sustainable management model for the crucial maritime link connecting Praia (Cape Verde) and Dakar.
This multi-modal corridor project aligns perfectly with ECOWAS’s strategic vision to transform the community into an integrated and competitive market. It is also designed to enhance the resilience of supply chains, improve accessibility for isolated areas, and foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth within the subregion.
In close collaboration with the relevant member states, the ECOWAS Commission aims for this corridor to serve as a significant catalyst for development and a true economic hub for West Africa.
