The 33rd Annual General Meetings of Afreximbank, scheduled for June 21-24, 2026, in El-Alamein, Egypt, will address issues related to the sports economy, featuring a panel discussion on the sports sector’s contribution to industrial development and economic transformation on the African continent.
The African Press Agency (APA) gathered on Tuesday, June 2, that the President of the Rugby Africa, Herbert Mensah, will participate in the proceedings of the 33rd Afreximbank Annual General Meeting in Egypt.
The meeting, which has the theme, “Intra-African Trade and Industrialization: The Path to Economic Sovereignty,” will bring together heads of state, government officials, leaders of financial institutions, private sector stakeholders and development experts.
According to the organisers, the discussions will focus on the opportunities offered by the sports economy to strengthen the continent’s production capacity, while covering several segments of the sports value chain, including equipment manufacturing, stadium technologies, broadcasting infrastructure, fitness products and sports medicine supplies.
The statement said that sports was one of Africa’s most powerful and underrated economic assets, adding that “every jersey, every ball and every stadium represent jobs, skills and industries that can be developed on the continent”.
