The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) has denounced the coordinated terrorist attacks on Saturday targeting several sites in Mali and
denouncing a plot to destabilize the region, while commending the Malian army’s response.
In a statement issued in Ouagadougou, the president of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), Captain Ibrahim Traore, asserted
that the attacks carried out on the morning of April 25 in Mali “bear the hallmarks of long-planned actions,” with the aim of inflicting
heavy losses on the defense forces and “sowing terror” among the civilian population.
According to the statement, the persistence of these barbaric and inhumane attacks” reflects the existence of a “monstrous plot” supported by
adversaries of the sovereignty movement undertaken by the AES member states.
The Confederation believes, however, that the attackers’ “macabre plan” was thwarted, thanks to a “professional, courageous and
determined response” by the Malian armed forces, to whom it pays “a heartfelt tribute.”
Reaffirming that these “despicable” attacks will not weaken the resolve of the Sahelian peoples, the AES emphasizes its commitment to continuing the
struggle for sovereignty, freedom and dignity in the region.
The statement also expresses its “deepest condolences” to the families of the victims and extends its wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded.
The Confederation reiterated its “total, unconditional, and fraternal” support for Mali, its government, and its armed forces, while thanking the states
and partners who demonstrated their solidarity following these attacks.
The AES concludes by reiterating its commitment to continue “the struggle until the complete liberation” of its region.
