Senegalese leader Bassirou Diomay Faye has vowed to strengthen ties with Portuguese-speaking nations.
He was invited by his Bissau-guinean counterpart Umaro Sissoco Embaló, to take part in the 15th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) in Bissau, as guest of honour.
In his address to the summit, President Faye hailed the historic, cultural, and fraternal ties between Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, and welcomed the CPLP’s openness to broader partnerships grounded in cooperation and solidarity.
He reaffirmed Senegal’s commitment to strengthening its relations with CPLP member states, particularly in the areas of culture, education, trade, and agriculture.
On the issue of food sovereignty, the president called for collective mobilisation to bring about a sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector. He emphasised the importance of innovation, better use of land resources, infrastructure development, and support for smallholder farmers—especially women and youth.
President Faye also outlined the key pillars of Senegal Vision 2050, in which agriculture plays a central role. He reiterated the country’s determination to contribute to food security across the African continent and beyond, in a spirit of shared responsibility and international cooperation.
