A 22-year-old suspect arrested in a coordinated operation by Moroccan security services
Moroccan security services arrested a 22-year-old man in Dakhla on Tuesday, May 12, described as a supporter of the “Islamic State” (IS), according to a statement from the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ).
The operation was carried out by the judicial police based on information provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), as part of heightened vigilance measures against
terrorist threats.
Initial investigations indicate that the suspect “had expressed his intention to carry out terrorist plots,” targeting serious harm to individuals and public order, the statement specifies.
The evidence gathered so far leads investigators to believe he is undergoing an active radicalisation process, still in the operational preparation phase.
The search conducted during this operation resulted in the seizure of several items considered to be material evidence. Security services recovered electronic devices, bladed weapons – including knives and blades of various sizes – and paramilitary-style clothing, according to the same source.
Legal proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office specializing in terrorism cases.
The suspect has been taken into custody to allow the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) to conduct the necessary investigations, with the aim of establishing the extent of his activities and determining any potential connections to terrorist networks or organisations.
This arrest is part of ongoing preventative operations conducted by Moroccan authorities to neutralize threats proactively. It illustrates the close coordination between intelligence services and judicial intervention units, a feature regularly highlighted in official communications regarding the fight against terrorism.
