The United States has trained Mozambican fire brigade personnel and donated specialised weapons of mass destruction (WMD) response equipment to strengthen the country’s ability to prevent, respond to and recover from chemical, biological and radiological incidents.
The US embassy in Maputo said on Monday that the initiative, conducted on 2 April through the embassy’s Regional Security Office, involved training 10 members of the Mozambican fire brigade under the Ministry of Interior and handing over modern protective and detection equipment.
The embassy said the effort forms part of long‑standing security cooperation between the two countries.
Chargé d’Affaires Abigail L. Dressel told participants that the support was aimed at bolstering Mozambique’s frontline emergency capacity.
“First responders stand on the front lines of protecting our communities—running toward danger so others can remain safe,” she said.
She said the programme enhances professional development, interagency coordination and operational resilience as Mozambique works to build institutions capable of managing high‑risk emergencies.
