The Ambassador of Sudan to Nigeria, Mohamed Abdel Aal Haroun, has highlighted the long standing relations between Sudan and Nigeria, saying that the ties predated the independence of both countries.
Haroun said that the relationship had evolved from historical interactions to formal diplomatic relations established in 1960.
He said that the two countries had since developed mechanisms for cooperation in political, economic and cultural spheres.
The ambassador commended Nigeria for its efforts to restore peace in Sudan and that Sudan is committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Nigeria.
According to him, Sudan will also deepen coordination with Nigeria on regional and international issues.
Speaking on the latest developments in Sudan, the ambassador accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing atrocities against civilians since the conflict began on April 15, 2023.
He said that the Sudanese Armed Forces had recorded gains on several fronts and that government institutions and private businesses had resumed operations in Khartoum as security improved.
The ambassador disclosed that millions of people are returning daily to Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri and dismissed claims by the RSF and its supporters that conditions in the capital were deteriorating.
