Received in audience by the President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, the Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, presented an encouraging picture of the economic and financial situation of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), while highlighting Burkina Faso’s achievements in terms of growth and inflation control.
The Governor of the BCEAO praised the performance of the Burkinabe economy on Monday in Ouagadougou following the audience granted by the Head of State.
According to Mr. Brou, this high-level meeting provided an ideal opportunity to review the economic, monetary, and financial situation of the WAEMU zone, which is currently marked by a favourable trend across its main macroeconomic indicators. The Central Bank Governor stated at the end of the meeting that the region is experiencing positive momentum and a good dynamic, noting that this was important information that needed to be brought directly to the attention of the President of Burkina Faso. He further indicated that the institution’s recent data shows sustained economic growth, steady control of inflationary pressures, and an improved external position for the community.
Speaking more specifically about Burkina Faso, Mr. Brou emphasized the strong performance of the national economy despite a regional and international environment marked by numerous security and macroeconomic challenges. He affirmed that they commended the resilience and performance of the Burkinabe economy during the audience. Discussions also focused on active BCEAO projects in Burkina Faso, with the Governor briefing the Head of State on the progress of the institution’s main localized projects, as well as the prospects for their completion in the short and medium term. This meeting is part of the regular, structured dialogue between the Burkinabe authorities and the sub-regional issuing institute on issues relating to monetary stability, financing of the economy, and the long-term development of the local financial sector.
