On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), celebrated Tuesday in Ouagadougou, the Chinese Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Zhao Deyong, affirmed that his country will remain “a sincere friend and a reliable partner” of Burkina Faso, while also welcoming the strengthening of bilateral relations.
China “will always be a sincere friend and a reliable partner of Burkina Faso,” declared Ambassador Zhao Deyong of the People’s Republic of China on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, during a symposium
organized by the Chinese Embassy to mark the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The meeting brought together Burkinabe officials, academics, and cooperation partners to discuss issues of governance, development, and bilateral cooperation. Discussions also traced the evolution of the CPC since its founding in 1921 and highlighted its role in China’s economic and social transformation. According to the diplomat, the CCP has led the country from a semi-colonial and underdeveloped state to become the world’s second-largest economy through a strategy based on
independence, planning, economic liberalisation, and poverty alleviation.
“There is no universal development model. Each country must explore a path adapted to its history, culture, and national realities,” stated Mr. Zhao, noting that China and Burkina Faso share a history marked by colonialism and a common aspiration for sovereignty.
The ambassador highlighted five pillars of Chinese development: national independence, prioritising the well-being of the people, openness to international cooperation, scientific planning for development, and strengthening domestic governance.
Speaking about bilateral relations, Zhao Deyong indicated that trade between China and Burkina Faso will exceed one billion US dollars by 2025, representing a 47.7% increase compared to 2024 and more than three times the level recorded in 2018.
He reaffirmed Beijing’s support for the Burkinabe authorities, assuring them that China “fully respects the sovereign choice of the Burkinabe people regarding their development path” and will continue to support the country’s efforts to preserve its sovereignty, security, and development.
Speaking on behalf of the National Commission of the Confederation of Sahel States (CSA), Karim Porgo welcomed the progress of Sino-Burkinabe cooperation and called for a deepening of the strategic partnership between Ouagadougou and Beijing.
