Ethiopia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics (MoTL) Tuesday confirmed that Boeing company officially inaugurated an office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The company said on its Facebook page that opening its second office on the continent in Ethiopia ”will enhance our ability to serve our airline customers and partners across Africa, reinforcing our commitment to the region’s growing aerospace industry and building on our 75-year legacy in Africa”.
Transport and Logistics minister Alemu Sime, who presided over the inaugural ceremony, described the occasion as a pivotal milestone in advancing Ethiopia’s global vision for a more interconnected and prosperous African continent.
Expressing gratitude to Boeing’s executive leadership for their confidence in Ethiopia, Sime stated, “We are committed to deepening this partnership through aircraft component manufacturing, capacity-building initiatives, and collaboration on sustainable aviation fuel technologies.”
He further asserted, “Together, we have the potential to transform Ethiopian Airlines into a global supply chain powerhouse and position Addis Ababa as the epicenter of aerospace innovation in Africa.”
“The opening of Boeing’s Africa office in Addis Ababa symbolises not only the boundless potential for Ethiopia but also the continent’s rising role in fostering economic liberation, regional integration, and global aviation advancement,” Sime added.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by high-ranking executives and dignitaries, including Kuljit Gatta, Boeing’s President for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Central Asia, as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Massinga, according to the Ministry.
He said that under the leadership of the National Transport Council, Ethiopia is implementing a comprehensive ten-year strategic roadmap aimed at modernizing infrastructure, reducing transport and trade-related costs, and strengthening continental connectivity.
