Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to growing the Nigerian maritime sector and positioning the country as West and Central Africa’s cargo hub.
Receiving the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing the maritime sector and increasing its contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product.
He said that the creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was a deliberate step toward unlocking opportunities and growing the blue economy.
President Tinubu commended NIMASA for its achievements and urged the agency’s management to sustain the momentum in regulation, safety and capacity development.
He charged Mobereola and his team not to relent in efforts to reposition the agency for greater efficiency and global competitiveness.
According to the statement signed by Mr. Osagie Edward, Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations, NIMASA, Dr. Mobereola had briefed President Tinubu on NIMASA’s progress over the last two years and highlighted challenges still confronting the Nigerian maritime industry.
