Petrobras president Magda Chambriard has been confirmed as a speaker at the Angola Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition in September, reinforcing momentum behind renewed Petrobras-led deepwater activity and expanding Angola-Brazil cooperation in upstream oil and gas.
Her participation underscores the re-entry of Brazil’s state-owned energy giant into Angola and highlights the strengthening of South Atlantic partnerships in hydrocarbon development.
Petrobras returned to Angola in 2025 through separate agreements with Sonangol and Angola’s upstream regulator – the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency – paving the way for joint studies of offshore acreage and research collaboration.
In March 2026, Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy signed a memorandum of understanding with Angola’s Ministry of Energy and Water, formalising cooperation in energy planning, electrification and institutional development.
While the pact spans multiple sectors, oil and gas remains the centrepiece of bilateral engagement.
Angola and Brazil share geological similarities across the Atlantic, with salt tectonics and conjugate-margin petroleum systems underpinning prolific deepwater potential.
Brazil’s Lula oilfield in the Santos Basin is among the world’s largest ultra-deepwater projects, with national output projected to reach 4.9 million barrels per day by 2032.
Meanwhile, Angola continues to attract major operators with competitive fiscal terms and strong geology.
TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil recently advanced new block allocations in the Benguela and Namibe basins while Azule Energy and Shell are preparing fresh drilling campaigns.
Chambriard’s presence at AOG 2026, therefore, signals Petrobras’ intent to leverage Brazil’s deepwater expertise to support Angola’s upstream drive.
The conference will convene national oil companies, international operators, investors and policymakers to shape the next phase of Angola’s energy development, with Petrobras’ renewed engagement adding weight to a growing wave of cross-Atlantic cooperation.
