A Brussels Airlines flight from Accra to Lomé had to return back shortly after takeoff on Monday evening due to a technical problem.
The aircraft landed safely at Accra International Airport, according to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
A Brussels Airlines flight bound for Lomé returned to Accra International Airport shortly after its departure on Monday, July 20, 2026, following the detection of a technical malfunction during the flight, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said.
Flight SN278 took off from Accra at 6:06 p.m. before the crew decided, as a precautionary measure, to return to its point of origin.
The aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m., the GCAA stated.
The aviation authority commended the crew’s response, noting that they followed established safety procedures, while reiterating that the protection of passengers and flight crew remains its top priority.
The exact cause of the incident is currently under investigation by Brussels Airlines in accordance with aviation safety procedures, under the supervision of the GCAA.
Following the incident, flight SN278 was cancelled and the affected passengers were assisted by the airline, in accordance with Ghanaian consumer protection regulations in the air transport sector.
The GCAA also confirmed that Ghana’s aviation safety and security oversight system remains fully operational.
