The Chad Teachers’ Union (SET), Ndjamena provincial branch, warned on Tuesday of a possible resumption of the strike, during a press briefing held at the Ecole du Centre.
Chadian teachers are threatening to take industrial action, denouncing the government’s failure to honour its commitments, citing a deterioration in social dialogue.
At the heart of the tensions lies the memorandum of understanding linked to Decree 2850, which has yet to be signed. The deadline set by the prime minister for 3 April 2026 has passed without any concrete action.
The General Secretary of SET/N’Djamena, Abdelkadre Djibia, condemns what he calls “deliberate administrative delays”, which he regards as an obstacle to resolving the dispute.
Another source of discontent is the deductions made from February 2026 salaries, which the union deems illegal. The SET is demanding their full reimbursement by the end of April, without conditions.
In light of this situation, the union is calling on the Minister of State for Education, Mahamat Ahmad Alhabo, to get directly involved in order to address the sector’s structural difficulties.
In the absence of swift action, the provincial branch of the SET states that it reserves the right to take industrial action, including a strike, in a context already marked by high tensions within the
Chadian education system.
