Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya signed a decree on Thursday, November 13, 2025, officially convening the electorate for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for December 28th.
The vote will proceed with nine approved candidates, including President Doumbouya himself. Polling stations across the country will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This summons follows the Supreme Court’s validation of the final list of candidates. Nine individuals have been approved to participate, with President Doumbouya among them. Notably, the candidacy of former Prime Minister Lansana Kouyate was rejected by the court. The election will be conducted using a single ballot, as stipulated by Article 79 of the electoral code.
The election takes place amidst a period of political restructuring. Recently, 51 new political parties received certification, bringing the total number of authorized political formations in Guinea to 124. Among the parties reinstated is Sidya Touré’s UFR party.
However, two major political formations—the UFDG of Cellou Dalein Diallo and the RPG of former president Alpha Condé—remain suspended, as their respective leaders are currently in exile.
A new Constitution, adopted via referendum in September 2025, sets an age limit of 80 years for accessing the presidency, a measure that has excluded several long-standing political figures from the race.
