The Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) attacked Al-Shabaab base, killing over 30 militants of the terrorist group.
In a statement issued on Thursday, AUSSOM said the attack was carried out at Al-Shabaab’s Bulunagaad Forward Operating Base (FOB), Lower Shabelle Region, noting that the operation was successful.
The operation, which was supported by air strikes, resulted in obliteration of Al Shabaab’s base, death of over 30 Al-Shabaab militants and injuries of several others, according to the statement.
The militants had earlier attacked SNA and AUSSOM forces in ambush, killing an unspecified number of Somali and AU troops in the coastal towns of Gendershe and Jilib–Marka axis.
“The SNA, AUSSOM, and partners acted swiftly and decisively to neutralize terrorist threats targeting security forces and civilians in the area,” it said.
SNA and AUSSOM remain committed to protecting civilian lives, maintaining security, and ensuring the safe movement of humanitarian assistance and logistics supplies to local communities, the statement noted.
AUSSOM said joint forces will continue operations to degrade Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities and to promote lasting peace, stability, and security in Somalia.
