Romania has expressed its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan, considering it the most adequate basis for a definitive solution to the dispute over the Sahara.
This position was expressed by the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dan Neculaescu, during a telephone conversation on Tuesday with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
The head of Romanian diplomacy underlined, during this exchange, that the autonomy plan presented by Morocco constitutes “the most adequate, serious, credible and realistic basis” to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara.
In this regard, he welcomed Morocco’s constructive commitment to resolve this dispute.
The meeting allowed the two ministers to reaffirm their desire to strengthen bilateral relations, in continuity with the historic ties of friendship and cooperation uniting the two countries.
According to Moroccan diplomacy, the talks also focused on the next events of the Francophonie, in particular the next Summit and the Romanian candidacy for the post of Secretary General of the
International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF).
Romania’s support for the Moroccan autonomy plan comes a few days after the failure to adopt a resolution at the UN Security Council relating to the UN mission (MINURSO) whose mandate expired on October 31.
