Senegal has reiterated its commitment to the Common African Position on reforming the United Nations Security Council during the 14th ministerial meeting of the African Union Committee of Ten (C-10), convened from October 10 to 11 in Tripoli.
Leading the Senegalese delegation, Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad Cheikh Niang affirmed Dakar’s alignment with continental efforts to address Africa’s historical underrepresentation within global governance structures.
The ministerial conference concluded with a collective rejection of any proposed permanent membership framework that assigns secondary status to African nations relative to existing permanent members. Delegates at the C-10 forum demanded equitable, permanent representation with full decision-making privileges on the Security Council, emphasizing that structural multilateral reforms must directly reflect Africa’s strategic geopolitical weight and diplomatic interests. Senegal’s active participation reinforces ongoing African Union advocacy aimed at securing a more balanced, inclusive, and legitimate international security system.
