Seychelles is pushing for visa‑free travel to Japan for holders of ordinary passports, Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora Minister Barry Faure said after meeting Oue Sadamasa, the Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister.
Faure said the government hoped to build on ongoing negotiations for a visa waiver covering diplomatic and official passports, which is expected to be signed soon.
The minister said the planned waiver for government officials would mark an important step in easing travel between the two countries, and that Victoria would immediately begin working with Tokyo on extending the arrangement to ordinary Seychellois travellers.
He said such an agreement would strengthen people‑to‑people ties and deepen bilateral cooperation.
The talks took place at Maison Quéau de Quinssy where Faure also thanked Japan for its support in constructing the Marine Police Headquarters at Perseverance, a project he described as significant for national security.
The two officials discussed upcoming international events hosted by Japan, including the Small Island State Summit and the 2027 International Horticultural Expo, which Seychelles views as opportunities to expand engagement.
Faure welcomed Japan’s commitment to what Oue described as “responsible diplomacy” and praised the broader state of relations between the two countries.
