At least four people have been arrested in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State following deadly clashes over land last weekend.
Radio Tamazuj reported on Monday that those arrested were suspected land grabbers involved in a land controversy in the Joppa Two area of Juba County.
It said two people had died while three others were injured after alleged land grabbers clashed with residents.
Its report quoted the state advisor on security and peae Angelo Daya as saying that the suspected land dealers were posing as local chiefs and carrying out unauthorised land demarcations, prompting the intervention of the security forces to prevent further trouble.
By Monday calm had returned to the area where the skirmish took place.
Meanwhile, the auhorities have issued an rder suspending all land demarcation and planning activities in Central Equatoria State where disputes over ownership are rife and lead to open conflict between claimants.
Rapid urbanisation if the areas around the capital Juba have not been matched by proper land regulations, leading to criticism of the authorities as selective enforcers.
