The Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) said it has killed 200 members of Fano forces who have also claimed similary casualties among federal troops, APA can report on Saturday.
In its social media page, over the weekend, ENDF said its East Command killed 200 “extremists” referring to Fano militias, and wounded 53 others in an anti extremist operation carried out between November 27 and December 9 in North Gojjam of the Amhara region.
In what it described as “fast, mobile and clandestine”, ENDF also said it has captured 41 members of the Fano forces while 19 others surrendered in Bahir Dar, the regional capital.
In terms of seized firearms, the defense force claimed that it has collected 174 AK 47, 191 rifles, 6 Chi Chi, 14 handgun, 15 hand grenades and 14 land mines.
Meanwhile, Fano forces are making claims that they have killed over 215 government forces and wounded 80 others in a span of one week in Metema districts, North Gondar area of the region.
Yohannes Nigussu, spokesperson of the north Gondar Fano Force said the Belay Zeleke Command conducted the operation in Shemela Gara localities, killing 215 government troops and wounding several others.
Two weeks ago, the Amhara regional government had signed a peace agreement with the Amhara FANO Popular Organization (FANO-AFPO).
AFPO, however, later announced that the agreement was reached with its dismissed leaders, Masresha Setie and Mesfin Abate (also known as Mesfin Kebelegne).
