Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo is on a two-day state visit to Eswatini during which he aims to strengthen economic cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.
His visit includes high-level discussions with business leaders and a scheduled meeting with King Mswati III to reinforce bilateral relations.
During a meeting with Business Eswatini, Chapo noted the need for greater economic diplomacy, urging private sector players from both countries to facilitate more business initiatives.
“We need to engage and talk about business opportunities between our two countries and our private sectors need to facilitate more business initiatives for the benefit of our nations,” he said.
He called for the removal of all barriers hampering economic cooperation between the two countries.
Eswatini and Mozambique share strong trade and infrastructure ties, with Mozambique serving as a key transit hub for Eswatini’s imports and exports.
The two nations have collaborated on regional water projects, including the Lomahasha-Namaacha Cross-border Water Supply Project – a transboundary water infrastructure initiative led by the governments of Eswatini and Mozambique.
The project aims to improve access to clean drinking water for over 40,000 residents in the border towns of Lomahasha (Eswatini) and Namaacha (Mozambique).
Chapo’s visit marks his first official trip to Eswatini since assuming office in January.
His meeting with King Mswati III is expected to cover regional trade policies, investment opportunities, and infrastructure development.
