Twenty-eight individuals were apprehended in Ziguinchor, southern Senegal, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during a high-profile joint security operation conducted by the Senegalese Armed Forces and the National Gendarmerie at the political headquarters of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC).
Security sources confirmed to the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) that law enforcement personnel raided the Magoukouro site, located in the Lyndiane neighborhood of Colobane, seizing mobile communication devices, organizational documents, and separatist flags without incurring major incidents.
The targeted site served as a strategic assembly hub for the separatist movement, hosting organizational meetings, religious gatherings, and memorial services for historical leaders whose portraits adorned the facility’s walls. The tactical intervention occurred on the eve of the seventh anniversary of the assassination of Abdou Elinkine Diatta, a prominent separatist figure killed in Mlomp, Bignona department, in 2019 after declaring himself the leader of the political wing. The arrests mark a significant security surge in the Casamance region as state forces maintain heightened vigilance over organized separatist activities.
