The outgoing President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, officially announced on Tuesday that he will be running for a second term in the presidential election, which is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 27, 2025.
The presidential election will be held concurrently with the legislative elections. President Ramkalawan expressed his gratitude to the Electoral Commission and the Seychellois people for their trust. He stated that his candidacy underscores his commitment to continuing to work in unity for a stronger and more inclusive Seychelles.
Ramkalawan made history in 2020 by winning the presidency in the first round, becoming the first leader from a party other than the former single party, now known as United Seychelles.
In Seychelles, the President is elected by a two-round majority system for a five-year term, which can be renewed once. If no candidate secures an absolute majority in the first round, a runoff election is held between the top two candidates. Each candidate for the presidency runs with a running mate for the vice-presidency.
