Seychelles President Patrick Herminie is undertaking an official visit to Réunion Island from July 13 to 15, during which he will attend France’s Bastille Day celebrations and hold talks aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation with French authorities in the Indian Ocean.
Visiting at the invitation of the island’s Prefecture, President Herminie will take part as a guest of honour in the French National Day celebrations on July 14.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation between Seychelles and Réunion, two Indian Ocean territories linked by longstanding historical, maritime, economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties. It reflects a shared commitment to strengthening regional partnerships in response to common challenges, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, connectivity, maritime security, and climate resilience.
During his stay, the Seychellois head of state will attend the official Bastille Day ceremony and hold a series of meetings with regional authorities and representatives of the French state. Discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, tourism, education, vocational training, healthcare, and environmental protection.
The programme also includes the signing of a cooperation agreement aimed at further consolidating institutional relations between the two sides, as well as a number of courtesy visits and tours of sites showcasing development initiatives and joint cooperation projects on the island. This visit comes amid renewed efforts to strengthen partnerships across the Indian Ocean region, where Seychelles and Réunion are seeking to enhance regional integration, promote skills exchanges, and advance joint projects for the benefit of their respective populations.
