Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the evacuation of the country’s staff the embassy in Iran without any incident.
“I am delighted to announce that we have conducted a successful evacuation of all our embassy staff in Iran,” Mr Ablakwa stated iin a Facebook post on Monday, March 2, 2026.
He assured the public that the diplomats are unharmed. “The Ghanaian diplomats are safe and in high spirits,” he added.
The minister further disclosed that Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Tehran has been shut down indefinitely. “Ghana’s embassy in Iran is now closed sine die,” local media reports quoted the minister as saying.
According to him, the decision was guided by the need to protect citizens. “The safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaians remains our utmost priority in these tempestuous times,” he added,
He explained that the evacuation follows a dramatic spike in tensions in the Middle East after coordinated military strikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets on February 28, 2026.
The strikes, according to international reports, targeted military infrastructure and strategic sites, heightening fears of a broader regional confrontation.
