Mozambican international Reinildo Mandava has signed a two-year deal with newly promoted Premier League side Sunderland, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old left-back joins the Black Cats as a free agent after making 99 appearances for Atlético Madrid under Diego Simeone in Spain’s La Liga.
A French Ligue 1 champion with Lille in 2021, Mandava is known for his defensive solidity and wealth of top-level experience. He becomes the first Mozambican player in history to wear the Sunderland shirt.
“Playing in the Premier League is a dream,” the defender said.
Sunderland is counting on his leadership and experience to help the club secure survival in the English top-flight.
