Two Turkish tourists and a local driver were killed in an ambush by armed men in southwestern Ethiopia, the South West Ethiopia Regional State said on Tuesday.
The attack was carried out on Monday in Suri district west of Omo Zone by herdsmen, the regional state said in a statement.
Noting that the attack was a “barbaric and heinous act”, the regional government expressed its deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to families of the victims.
According to the regional government, extensive law enforcement operations are underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Indicating that the attack was the result of an armed robbery, the regional government called on the local community to cooperate with security forces by providing necessary information about the perpetrators.
