Senegal’s construction industry turnover fell by 22.1% in the second quarter of 2026, driven by declines in building construction, civil engineering, and specialised construction activities, according to the ANSD.
This is due to declines across the three main sub-sectors, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
This trend is reflected in the Construction Turnover Index (ICAC) – with a base of 100 in 2016 – which measures changes in the value of invoiced work across real estate development, building construction, and specialised construction activities.
Specialised construction activities recorded the sharpest decline, falling by 38.7% over the year.
This contraction was primarily driven by a drop in installation work (-36.9%) and other specialized
construction activities (-77.7%).
Civil engineering turnover fell by 29.0% over the same period, while building construction turnover contracted by 11.9%.
Within the building construction sub-sector, turnover from building construction for third parties fell by 17.0%, whereas turnover from real estate development rose by 31.7%, partially offsetting the
overall decline.
For the first six months of 2026, construction sector turnover showed a 10.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
The sector’s overall index stood at 76.6 in the second quarter of 2026, down from 98.3 a year earlier.
According to the ANSD, this represents the lowest level in the series, which begins in the second
quarter of 2019.
The analytical note specifies that the indicators were compiled with a coverage rate of 81.6%. The ICAC is published no later than 75 days after the end of the quarter under review.
The data are analysed on a year-on-year basis, as the ANSD has not yet calculated seasonally adjusted indices.
